Max Weinberg is the drummer of E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen's major band. His snare drum from the "Born In The USA" tour, "The Big Beat", is on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC. Maxwell Weinberg was born on April 13, 1951, in Newark, New Jersey.
At the age of five Max saw the "Ed Sullivan Show" on which Elvis Presley appeared in 1956. Unlike other people, Max was not fascinated with Elvis, but with Elvis' drummer D. J. Fontana. By the age of 7, with his parents' support Max was playing in public.
In 1974 he got a job drumming for the Broadway-Musical "Godspell". In the same year he took notice of a Village Voice Ad placed by Bruce. After auditioning, Max became a member of Bruce Springsteen's "E-Street Band" on August 23, 1974. Within days of his successful audition, Max left college and his Broadway job and was on the road, ready to tour with Bruce Springsteen and his "E-Street Band".
